Many were surprised to see that former Alaska governor and outspoken Donald Trump supporter Sarah Palin was not on an official “partial list” of speakers released Thursday for this year’s Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

In an interview with the Washington Examiner on Thursday, Trump said that Palin was asked to speak but decided against it because of how far the venue is from her home in Alaska.

“She was asked,” said Trump. “It’s a little difficult because of where she is. We love Sarah. Little bit difficult because of, you know, it’s a long ways away.”

Palin was one of the first elected officials to endorse Trump for the White House.

She attended events on the campaign trail with the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, including a surprise appearance at a large rally in San Diego, Calif., late May

Notable speakers on the RNC roster of speakers include onetime football star Tim Tebow, president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White, and Mr. Trump's wife, Melania.
