For the gang bangers on Chicago’s South and West sides, a three-day weekend seems to be just as deadly as a four-day one.

Eight people were murdered and 27 others were wounded in shootings across the Chicagoland area over the weekend. While the number of wounded from this past weekend is from the 45 people that were wounded from the previous weekend, the number of people murdered as a result of being shot went up to eight from the seven that were killed over the extended Memorial Day weekend.

Here’s an example of this past weekend’s violence:

A man died after being shot at 1:06 p.m. Saturday in the West Side Austin neighborhood. Someone walked up to the Quinton Flowers, 19, in the 5400 block of West Cortez and shot him in the chest and body, authorities said. He was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he was pronounced dead at 7:42 p.m.

The continuation of the slow-but-steady genocide in the city of Chicago comes after reports that the Chicago division of the FBI are joining forces with the Chicago Police Department to combat the violence.

The Chicago Tribune reported on this year’s number of homicides, as well as shooting victims, as compared to 2016:

The city has recorded 259 homicides this year compared with 271 this time last year, according to data compiled by the Tribune.

The number of shooting victims has decreased by about 9 percent. As of Monday, 1,434 people had been shot compared with 1,588 people this time last year, according to Tribune data.

Hopefully, the drop in percentage concerning Chicago’s violence can come down even further as the numbers are still staggering.
