The woman who tricked her friend into having sex with her by pretending to be a man online and using a prosthetic penis during sex has been sentenced to six-and-a-half years behind bars after a retrial on Thursday.

The incident began when Gayle Newland, now a 27-year-old woman, used a fake online persona named “Kye Fortune” to deceive women, including a straight female friend, into sexual relationships for more than two years. In person, Newland pretended to be a man by using bandages and a prosthetic penis. Newland reportedly blindfolded her victims during sex after telling them that "Kye" was uncomfortable with his body due to cancer treatments.

According to the Evening Standard, at trial, Newland asserted the victim in the case was aware that Kye was an online persona as part of a roleplaying scenario to deal with their feelings about being lesbians.

A Guardian report from 2015 claims the two had sex ”about 10 times” until the victim took off her blindfold to see Newland standing there with a prosthetic penis, a bandaged chest, a swimsuit, and a hat.

While giving evidence, the victim alleged, “Every time I met up with Kye Fortune, I either had the mask on already or he would wait outside the door and I would put it on. I was so desperate to be loved. It’s pathetic, so desperate for love, so desperate.”

The victim maintained she only consented to sex with Kye, not Newland.

According to the Telegraph, Newland had been sentenced to eight years back in 2015 for sexual assault, but her conviction was overturned by the Court of Appeals in December after it claimed the judge was not fair and balanced in the case.

After the retrial, Newland was sentenced to six-and-a-half years for the same sexual assault charges, along with a six month charge for fraud, as Newland maintained fake client profiles for their internet advertising agency.
