Katrina Lazzarotto had no idea what kind of treat she would be in for when her friend, helicopter pilot Bradley Friesen, offered her a chance to go figure skating on top of a mountain.

Friesen planned to fly Lazaretto 5,000 feet up in the Canadian Rockies and drop her off on a frozen alpine lake so she would skate for the first time in four years while he recorded it on seven different GoPro cameras mounted to his helicopter.

Upon arrival, Lazzarotto was instantly excited.

“I had my skates and I looked and I was like ‘Oh my gosh, how am I here? How did I get picked to come up here. This is heaven. I’m going to skate on heaven.’”

“I can’t believe Brad just asked me. I don’t think he realized the gift that he was giving me,” Lazzarotto added. “I felt so alive.”

“It was the first time in a very long time that I had felt that alive and that me.”

This wasn’t Friesen’s first time taking an ice skater to a frozen lake with a mountainous scenery. Last time he took three time Bronze Medalist Eliabeth Putnam to a frozen Widgeon Lake in Vancouver.
