Last night, Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz appeared on MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Matthews. They covered a range of issues, including the merits and problems of having an openly-declared socialist running for the Democratic nomination for president in Bernie Sanders.

As the conversation progressed, Matthews asked, "What is the difference between a Democrat and Socialist?" To which, Debbie Wasserman Schultz simply could not answer. In fact, she tried to change the subject to the differences between Republicans and Democrats. Chris Matthews did not let up though.

So, that begs the question: if the head of the Democratic Party doesn't see any difference between a Democrat and a Socialist, is there really any difference?
