What Gives? Rep. Tim Ryan Only Dem Debater Not to Put Hand Over Heart During National Anthem

Not a word had yet been said, yet Democrat presidential candidate Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) spoke volumes while the national anthem was being sung before the first half of the CNN-hosted Democratic debates at Detroit's famous Fox Theatre that began Tuesday evening.

As the Perfecting Church Choir sang the national anthem, while all of the candidates slated to partake in the debate stayed standing, Ryan was the only person on the stage that didn't put his hand over his heart. Instead, Ryan opted to clasp his hands.
