During Tuesday’s White House press briefing, spokesman Josh Earnest admitted that the airstrike on the Doctors Without Borders hospital in Kunduz, Afghanistan was a mistake on the part of the United States, but that the President would not apologize to the victims’ families until investigations regarding the bombing are concluded.

A reporter asked the press secretary,“Now that we have that level of specificity that this was a mistake on behalf of the United States, does the President plan to apologize to Doctors Without Borders or to the families of the victims of the incident?”

Earnest responded, “[Top U.S. Commander in Afghanistan] General Campbell did indicate that the strike on the hospital was a mistake.”

“[But] there still is more that needs to be learned, however, on how exactly this happened.”

He went on to say that President Obama has called for three separate investigations into the incident that are currently underway, which he expects will "yield a full accounting of what transpired."
