Joy Behar, co-host to ABC's 'The View,' comments about North Carolina, 'They're so far behind at this point. The majority of people in the country approve of gay marriage. It's the minority that's against it.' Earlier this week, North Carolina citizens voted for a constitutional amendment, which declares marriage between one man and one woman as the only legal union in the state. Voters approved the amendment 60 percent to 40 percent, making North Carolina the 30th state to implement a ban on gay marriage.
The View's Sherri Sheperd questions Behar, 'Do you know the numbers? North Carolina? What's what?' to which Behar replies 'No, but --.'
Whoopi Goldberg replies that '53 percent' approve gay marriage in America -- data released by a Gallup poll last year. However, a new breaking Gallup poll shows the country is split further on gay marriage, with 50 percent approving gay marriage. Gallup published the poll a day before 'The View' aired this episode.
Behar owes facts and research to her national audience before publicly calling North Carolina a state falling 'behind' -- a state that supports the 'minority.' Gay marriage isn't a battle yet won on either side. As Aesop says, the chickens can't be counted before they're hatched.
