President Trump delivered remarks Thursday morning during the opening ceremony of his first NATO summit.

At NATO headquarters in Belgium, Trump discussed his vision for “the NATO of the future.”

In the wake of the deadly terror attack in Manchester, Trump said that NATO must have “a great focus on terrorism and immigration."

He added that NATO must pay attention to threats from Russia.

Trump also called out NATO’s member nations for not paying their fair share when it comes to defense spending and being late on their dues.

“NATO members must finally contribute their fair share and meet their financial obligations,” he said. “Twenty-three of the 28 member nations are still not paying what they should be paying and what they are supposed to be paying for their defense.”

“This is not fair to the people and taxpayers of the United States,” Trump went on.”Over the last eight years, the United States spent more on defense than all other NATO countries combined.”

The President has significantly changed his tone on NATO since the election. Then-candidate Trump called NATO “obsolete.”

Since becoming president, he reversed course and said NATO is “no longer obsolete,” now participating in its summit in Brussels.
