President Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau held a joint press conference at the White House on Monday, where they shared their plans to create a bi-national “counsel for advancement of women entrepreneurs and business leaders.”

Trudeau has called himself a feminist and said in a press conference leading up to the leaders’ first formal meeting that he planned on discussing advancing opportunities for women in business.

Trump during his remarks to the press said that he and the Canadian prime minister are “focused on the important role women play in our economies."

“The full power of women can do better than anybody else,” said the President. “We know that.”

The meeting between the North American two leaders included women business leaders from the U.S. and Canada, Trudeau shared.

While the two share strong disagreements on immigration and national security, Trump and Trudeau agreed that the alliance between the U.S. and Canada is “vital” and “essential,” especially when it comes to trade and security.

“Our two nations share much more than a border,” said Trump. “We share the same values, and a truly great love of freedom … and we share a collective defense.”

“In these dangerous times, it is more important however that we continue to strengthen our vital alliance,” he said.

“Relationships between neighbors are pretty complex and we won’t always agree on everything,” said Trudeau. “Make no mistake, at the end of the day, Canada and the U.S. will always remain each other’s most essential partner.”
