Director Tim Burton has come under fire for not supporting political correctness for the sake of political correctness.

In an interview with Bustle about his new film, “Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children,” Burton was asked about the supposed lack of diversity in his films.

Burton responded by saying, "Nowadays, people are talking about it more." He went on, noting, "things either call for things, or they don’t.”

“I remember back when I was a child watching ‘The Brady Bunch’ and they started to get all politically correct. Like, OK, let’s have an Asian child and a black. I used to get more offended by that than just... I grew up watching blaxploitation movies, right? And I said, that’s great. I didn’t go like, OK, there should be more white people in these movies,” he continued.

In response to Burton’s comments on diversity, liberal media outlets have attacked Burton for his views and his allegedly overly white films.

HitFix described Burton’s position as a “strange excuse” for a lack of diversity and then stated his publicist must be “day-drinking” as a result of his remarks. Gizmodo accused Burton of saying something “monumentally stupid.” The Washington Post bluntly wrote in its title, “Tim Burton explains why his movies are full of white people.”

By making the point that Burton’s alleged lack of diversity is a problem in itself, the media outlets complaining about Burton’s comments essentially make his point for him.
