Now we’ve got babies dying both inside and outside the womb at rapid rates.
The National Center for Health Statistics concluded that the infant mortality rate rose by three percent from 2021 to 2022. The study was released Wednesday and is a chilling realization when coupled with the overwhelming rate of abortions in the United States.
The study indicated that the rate for neonatal infants climbed three percent and climbed to four percent for infants who were post-neonatal, meaning they lived past 28 days since they were born.
Dr. Sandy Chung, president of the American Academy of Pediatrics, wrote an email to CNN and indicated that, “We live in a country with significant resources, so the infant mortality rate and the increase are shockingly high. As pediatricians who help children grow into healthy adults, any death of any child is one too many. The infant mortality rate in this country i[s] unacceptable.”
According to the CNN article, there were 20,538 infant deaths in 2022 alone. It also noted that there are disproportionately more infant deaths among non-white babies. In 2022, for infants of American Indian or Alaska Native women, mortality rates “climbed over 20% from about 7.4 deaths per 1,000 births to over 9 deaths per 1,000 births.” Same thing goes for babies of black women. Though the rate didn’t grow much, babies of black women died 11 out of 1,000 births.
Rachel Hardeman, professor of health and racial equity at the University of Minnesota, as well as Dr. Elizabeth Cherot, President and CEO of March of Dimes, noted that geographical locations could be contributors to high infant mortality rates. They called these areas “maternity care deserts.”

“We know that for people who live in or near poverty and for certain racial and ethnic groups there are significant challenges with getting access to a doctor or getting treatments,” Chung wrote according to CNN. “This can lead to moms and babies showing up for care when they are sicker and more likely have serious outcomes, even death.”
The report also indicated that “maternal complications and bacterial sepsis, or infection, were responsible for a greater rate of newborn deaths than before.”
The report didn’t go into much further detail, and CNN’s commenters indicated that they wished the study provided more answers with its data rather than just stats and unanswered questions.
It’s devastating to hear that so many innocent lives were cut short prematurely, and I pray that we can find answers soon as to why this is happening to help combat it. But y'all, this is exactly what’s happening with abortions. While these kids are dying outside the womb, millions of others are getting killed before they even get a chance at life and our government and so-called leaders are not only permitting such vile acts to occur, but encouraging it via donations to abortion clinics, campaigns for abortions, or spewing pro-abort rhetoric.
The bottom line is that we need to adopt a pro-life attitude from the womb to the tomb. A life deserves care at all stages: when he or she is conceived, when he or she is born and after as well as care for his or her mother.
