It’s not every day that Jon Stewart gets to make fun of Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi in the same episode, but that’s exactly what happened when he took on the $1.1 trillion spending bill on The Daily Show last night.

“It’s called a Christmas tree” says a news clip about the huge spending bill that Congress just passed.

“Is there anything more magical than the look on a Congressperson’s face when they come down the stairs to see what they got themselves?” opined Stewart.

He pointed out that the bill included language written by lobbyists that had nothing to do with budgets but everything to do with special interests, including a declaration that white potatoes are now a fresh vegetable, an end to a ban on incandescent light bulbs, two birds taken off the endangered list, D.C. lawmakers stopped from legalizing marijuana, and on and on.

Legislators use a must-pass bill to get special-interest provisions that couldn’t be passed otherwise. Some are even slipped in “in the middle of the night” a CNN news clip says.

“What? They just wait until no one’s looking and then slip this toxic stuff in?” Stewart asked.

Pretty much.
