Joe Soptic has been dominating the news cycle recently thanks to an ad put out telling the story of how his wife died of cancer, and how it was indirectly Mitt Romney's 'fault'. Of course, these kind of outlandish tactics (or lies) should come as a shock to absolutely no one who understand Chicago style politics. (To see the ad, click here.)
However, the aftermath was even better. Stephanie Cutter, the Deputy Campaign Manager for Barack Obama, said she didn't know the details of Soptic's wife amid spectulation there could have been collusion between the Obama campaign and SuperPAC Priorities USA Action- who released the controversial ad.
On August 8, 2012, Cutter stated, “I don’t know the facts about when Mr. Soptic’s wife got sick or the facts about his health insurance.”
This was not true, as she sat in on an Organizing for America conference call with Joe Soptic on the line telling his story back on May 14, 2012.
Here's the phone call:
That's not all. Septic himself appeared on Democracy Now! and said Bain actually offered to buy their jobs out from underneath them.
To make a very long and complicated story short, despite the fact that Obama's campaign initially lied about knowing of the incident, they have not formally apologized.
I wouldn't hold your breath on that...
