Smirnoff Trolls President Trump With Their New Ad Citing 'Russia Ties'

Smirnoff Vodka took a jab at President Trump in their new bus stop ad, spotted at Metro North in Harlem.

A photo of the ad, which was created by the ad company 72andSunny, was posted online by a Twitter user named "Kate." The ad reads, “Made in America But We’d be Happy To Talk About Our Russian Ties Under Oath.”

The ad, which includes the image of a large bottle of Smirnoff vodka next to a moscow mule, appears to be referencing a statement from Trump during a Rose Garden press conference, in which the president claimed he’d be comfortable testifying about his alleged connections to Russia under oath.

Despite the fact that the Smirnoff is owned by British company Diageo and is made in Illinois, vodka’s roots are in Russia.

In response to questions from the Huffington post, Smirnoff responded with an official statement, explaining, “Smirnoff has been made in America for more than eight decades. The recent interest in American-made products created the perfect opportunity to reinforce that fact and the brand’s roots in Russia ― with a wink and nod to current affairs.”

As to its Russian ties, the popular vodka brand does have a sister company in Moscow that retains the original name Smirnov.
