Sen. Grassley Thanks House Leaders for Shelving Controversial Border Security Bill

Sen. Chuck Grassely (R-Iowa) today thanked House leaders for shelving the vote on the controversial “border security” bill opposed by both those who defend the border and those who handle immigration cases: border agents and immigration officers.

"For God's sakes, if we can't unite around border security what can we unite around?" asked Texas GOP Rep. Michael McCaul, author of the legislation (H.R. 399) and chairman of the homeland security committee.

Rep. McCaul defended his "Secure Our Borders First" bill in a statement to MRCTV, saying it's just the first measure in a "step-by-step" approach to full border security.

While House leaders blamed snow for delaying the vote, no date has been rescheduled to vote on the border security bill, giving lawmakers time to reconcile their differences.
