Update: SDPD currently has a house surrounded where a possible second suspect may be hiding.

Two San Diego police officers were shot, one fatally, in a shootout following a late-night traffic stop Thursday.

One suspect, a Hispanic male, has been taken into custody while a search for a possible second suspect is underway.

Officer Jonathan “JB” Guzman, a husband and father of two kids, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died early Friday.

The second police officer shot, Officer Wade Irwin, was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

San Diego Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman held a press conference Friday morning to provide the public with updates regarding the ongoing investigation.

She said that Irwin, a nine-year veteran, is in serious condition but “expected to survive the attempt on his life.”

The identity of the Hispanic male in custody has not been disclosed at this time. Zimmerman said that he sustained a gunshot wound and is in critical condition.

Police are still searching for any possible accomplices.
