Marco Rubio took to Twitter earlier on Thursday to express to his followers why he could never be a Democrat.

The tweet included a post from a journalist Patricia Mazzei and it went a little something like this:

It was clearly meant to be humorous, since Rubio was making fun of himself. Come on, we all know about his little water break when he responded to President Obama's State of the Union speech in 2013.

The Florida senator was not being malicious in anyway, but rather aimed to put a smile on our faces. But I guess his tweet rubbed some of his Twitter followers (aka Twitter trolls) the wrong way. People went so far as to attack him personally along with his political affiliation:

What happened to people being able to take jokes? Absolutely nothing can be funny anymore without people getting mad and attacking someone. Listen, as I conservative I can laugh at jokes (ones that aren’t genuinely malicious) about conservatives because I can laugh at myself. And clearly Rubio can as well. Liberals need to take a chill pill and get a sense of humor.
