While we were all absorbed by the Republican National Convention on Tuesday, the Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine (inStem) in Bengaluru was telling the Times of India about their amazing (and kind of disgusting) new discovery.

The researchers found that the milk of a certain strain of roaches, Diploptera Punctata, contains three times more nutriants per crystal than the equivalent mass of dairy milk.

It contains protiens, fats and sugars -- all essential amino acids. In addition, the high-calorie count is released slowly, mirroring the rate at which it is consumed and making it one of the most potently nutritious supplements of its kind.

The group plans to use a yeast system to mass produce the crystals, saying they will make a wonderful protein supplement. There is no date given for when it will hit the grocery store shelves.

That’s fine though. I can wait.
