The City of Reno, NV came under fire this past weekend, after hoisting an LGBT Pride flag above City Hall and removing the American Flag during an LGBT pride event.

KTVN Channel 2 reports that the move sparked controversy from local residents, and prompted official responses from both the City of Reno and the Mayor.

The official statement from the City of Reno apologized for the move claiming they "made an error in not flying the American flag along with the pride flag," and that after seeing the issue they "immediately returned to flying the American flag."

"The City was proud to participate in pride weekend and will continue to celebrate our diverse community," the statement added.

Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve also released a statement apologizing for the incident.

"I too am offended and there is no excuse for this," said Schieve. "Those who have served deserve the highest respect for their service."

According to the report, the flag was removed Sunday morning, and KTVN Channel 2 confirmed it was back in place by 9 p.m. that evening.
