You never know who's listening.

That's what convicted murderer Drew Peterson found out while sitting in a courtroom in downstate Illinois Tuesday.

Peterson was convicted in 2012 of first-degree murder for drowning his third wife, Kathleen Savio. The outspoken Peterson was sentenced to 38 years in prison for the crime. The disappearance of Peterson’s fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, was the reason investigators reopened the Savio case in the first case. Stacy's body still has never been found.

Peterson listened in court on Tuesday while prosecutors played audio tapes recorded by his cellmate with the use of a hidden wire.

Prisoner-turned-informant Antonio Smith told the court that Peterson told him he wanted to hire a hitman to murder Will County States Attorney James Glasgow, one of the attorneys who had prosecuted Peterson in the Savio trial.

The audiotape revealed Peterson had attempted to get Smith to kill Glasgow before Christmas, saying, “It would be a nice Christmas present.”

Smith played along long enough to get enough incriminating evidence against Peterson. Smith said that during his time with the wife-killer, Peterson told Smith that he had, in fact, killed Stacy Peterson.

However, one of Peterson’s comments on the tape directly contradicted Smith’s testimony.

"Stacy’s still alive running around out there, but now they wanna determine her dead,” Peterson said on the tape.

Whatever the case may be, Peterson is still a known killer, adulterer and liar. There’s a special place in hell for the likes of him.
