The day after MSNBC Host Rachel Maddow’s failed attempt to expose scandal by obtaining a 12-year-old tax return of President Donald Trump, the network still couldn’t resist blanketing its website with articles on the topic.

On Tuesday, Maddow said she had obtained Trump’s tax return and would examine it on her show that night. And, even though her report failed to produce a scandal, showed that Trump had actually paid a higher tax rate than MSNBC itself in 2005, and was widely mocked, MSNBC.com continued to obsess over the story the next day.

A huge graphic about the story dominated the web page on Wednesday. And, four of its top five “Top Stories from NBC News and MSNBC” were about Trump’s 2005 tax return – and the other asked “Why Do Wealthy People Need a Tax Cut Now?”

Six of its first eight “top stories” were about the 12-year-old tax return. In all, NBC/MSNBC’s top 10 stories consisted of:

  • Six exclusively focused on Trump’s 2005 tax return,
  • Two on Trump’s claim the Obama administration spied on him, and
  • Two criticizing the GOP’s health care bill, including the tax cut story.

Apparently, there’s not much else happening in the world MSNBC considers worthy of reporting.
