Obama’s Joke to the Troops Met with Stony Faces, Silence

Yesterday at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey, President Obama tried to crack a joke with the troops, only to be met with impassive faces and complete silence.

Obama began by talking about the troops’ sacrifice serving overseas during the holidays.

“We are free and safe and secure over here because you’re willing to serve over there,” he said. “That’s the noble spirit of your sacrifice. That’s the selfless character of our military. Those are the precious gifts that you give America, not just this time of year, but all year. Every year. All year. You never stop serving, never stop giving. Just like Santa in fatigues.”

The joke completely bombs as none of the troops even smile.

Obama bites his lip, “Although I’ll bet one of those C-130s is a little more efficient than Santa’s sleigh.”

At that, someone whoops and he gets a few smiles.
