“The number of people who die from gun-related incidents around this country dwarfs any deaths that happen through terrorism,” according to President Obama.

While speaking to WPVI-TV’s Monica Malpass about the murder of two reporters on air yesterday, Obama said, “It breaks my heart every time you read about or hear about these kinds of incidents.”

He continued, “What we know is that the number of people who die from gun-related incidents around this country dwarfs any deaths that happen through terrorism.”

Obama’s full interview will air later tonight on WPVI-TV.

Earlier yesterday afternoon, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said he did not have the opportunity to speak to the president about the tragedy. However, Earnest stated the White House urges Congress to pass “common sense things.”
