This is the year of the big screen phone, which we already saw Apple go big with the iPhone 6 Plus. Samsung has owned that market with the Galaxy Note line and their newest iteration in the Note 4. Now there is a new kid on the block and it comes from an unlikely source.

Google has officially unveiled the next Nexus device and its a “whale” of a phone. At 5.9 inches the Nexus 6 is set to take the top spot over the new and wildly sold iPhone 6 Plus, as it should. It is running a Qualcomm SnapDragon 805 SOC coupled with an Adreno 420 for Graphics. In a multi-core benchmark test the Nexus 6 beats out the iPhone 6 Plus.

The screen is one the main features of this device. Motorola, who was once owned by Google, and Google decided to go big with 5.9 inches, but to take it a step further that took that 5.9 inches and added a QHD screen. It currently has a 2k screen at 2560x1440 which has a pixel density of 93 pixels per inch. In comparison to the iPhone 6 Plus , which has a 5.5 inch screen at 1920x1080 and a pixel density of 401, the Nexus is bigger and has a higher resolution screen. What makes this better is that despite its screen size, its about the same height as the iPhone 6 Plus whcih means better screen to phone ratio.

The Nexus 6 will run Android 5.0 Lollipop, Google’s newest Android operating system. Lollipop brings Google’s new UI knowns as Material Design which is designed to be universal across mobile to desktop. It brings new animations at 60 frames per second, 64 bit capabilities, new battery optimization as well wealth of other new features.

If I end up getting this behemoth, I will do a video review. As of now this is looking like the device to beat with the Note 4 at second place, tied with the, Moto Droid Turbo, a Verizon exclusive and lastly the iPhone 6 Plus. Which one will you choose?
