The same party that constantly decries the mere mention of voter fraud is now reportedly handing out voter registration forms to newly-arriving refugees – who, for the few who may not know, can’t legally vote.

As first reported by the Conservative Review, the Nebraska Democratic Party has started greeting incoming refugees with “welcome baskets,” complete with pillows, kitchen utensils and voter registration forms.

A video posted online by the group shows NDP chairwoman Jane Kleeb rifling through one such basket and displaying its contents, including an envelope she openly admits includes a voter registration form.

“When [President Trump] put in his racist travel ban we put out a call to action to Democrats across the state saying ‘help us create welcome baskets for refugee and immigrant families who are making Nebraska their home,’” said Kleeb in the video.

“We include a sticker in there for them to put on their car,” she continued. “It also includes a voter registration form and also just includes our contact information in case they want to reach out and have any questions.”

“This is just what Democrats do,” Kleeb added.

According to U.S. law, refugees can’t legally vote unless and until they become naturalized citizens. But in order to become citizens, a person would have to have become a legal permanent resident and live in the United States lawfully for at least five years.

Not five minutes.

Conservative Review added they reached out to Kleeb to ask why the Democratic Party would include voter registration forms in its welcome basket if refugees can’t legally register to vote. Here’s what she said, according to CR:

According to Kleeb, the purpose of sending voter registration forms to newly arrived refugees was so “they start to get familiar with democracy and how you become a voter in our country.”

The report carefully added that “There is no evidence to suggest that the Nebraska Democratic Party or its chairwoman violated the law.”

But getting right up to that edge doesn’t usually reflect well on anybody.
