EXCLUSIVE: Halloween Costumes Blamed For Native American Suicides

Halloween costumes are being blamed for Native Americans committing suicide.

A flier obtained by MRCTV shows aistm.org, the American Indian Sports Team Mascots, shows a woman dressed up in a Native American costume and instructs people to “Please Halloween Responsibly.”

The flier reads, “According to the Center for Disease control, suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for Native Americans age 10-34, and on reservations the suicide rate is up to 7 times higher than the national average. Promoting stereotypical images affects the way the world perceives Native people and the way Native people perceive themselves.”

In other words, wearing a sexy Pocahontas costume directly causes Native Americans to suffer from crippling depression and low self-esteem. By wearing a feathered headdress with your costume, you are causing Native Americans to commit suicide.

The flier encourages people who want to learn “more on cultural appropriation” to go to the aistm.org website.

The top issue on the aistm.org website is getting the Washington Redskins to change their mascot. According to the American Indian Sports Team Mascots, “redsk*ns” is a racial slur and a “racial epithet.”

The website includes dozens of links to different campaigns and news stories related to getting rid of Native American mascots.
