“The woman who drove a minivan into the ocean with her three children inside no longer faces attempted murder charges,” reports Fox News.

According to Public Defender James Purdy, a court-appointed doctor found that Ebony Wilkerson had suffered a psychotic episode when she decided to lock her kids inside her car and drive off Daytona Beach, Fla. into the Atlantic Ocean back in March.

Her 10-year-old daughter reportedly told authorities that her mom took them to the beach “so we could die,” says Fox’s Shepard Smith.

Thanks to a group of heroic bystanders, no one was hurt

Wilkerson has since agreed to plead not guilty by reason of insanity, but still faces three counts of aggravated child abuse.

The 33-year-old woman was pregnant at the time of the incident and gave birth to her fourth child, a baby boy, while in prison.

Criminal defense attorney Dan Conaway joined Fox News on “Shepard Smith Reporting” to discuss how Wilkerson managed to evade attempted murder charges despite her clear intent to kill.

Here's raw footage of the shocking event.
