A Massachusetts sheriff has offered President-elect Donald Trump his county’s inmates to help build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson announced his proposal during his inaugural ceremony Wednesday night, where he was sworn in for a fourth term.

He argued that inmate labor could dramatically cut the cost of the wall and subsequently save taxpayers money, even though Trump has promised that Mexico will be paying for its construction.

"I can think of no other project that would have such a positive impact on our inmates and our country than building this wall," Hodgson said Wednesday.

“Aside from learning and perfecting construction skills, the symbolism of these inmates building a wall to prevent crime in communities around the country, and to preserve jobs and work opportunities for them and other Americans upon release, can be very powerful,” he said.
