Is the Internet free?

It may seem that way, sometimes.  You turn on your computer or log onto your iPad and there it is.  You don’t have to enter a credit card number or repeatedly pop quarters into the side of your monitor in order to access the millions of sites that make up the World Wide Web.

It’s easy to forget that someone out there has to run the servers and control the intricate super highway of IP networks that allow us to access the Internet and those people get paid to do it.  Someone has to pay these nerds and guess who does?  You.  In some way shape or form, whether at work, at home or in an internet cafe, someone is paying so that you can look at GIFs of otters playing basketball.
