Martin Shkreli Banned from Twitter After Asking Writer on a Date

Pharmaceutical entrepreneur Martin Shkreli was banned from Twitter on Sunday for alleged “harassment after he asked a Teen Vogue writer on a date.

The “harassment” began when Shkreli sent Lauren Duca, known for her piece about President-elect Donald Trump “gaslighting America” and defending the man who harassed Ivanka Trump on a plane, a private message inviting her to the inauguration as his date. Duca responded by publicly posting his message and writing, “I would rather eat my own organs.”

Shkreli then took his affection for Duca public, editing his bio to write that he has a crush on her, turning his profile photo into an edited photo of them together, and making his banner a collage of her photos.

In response to Shkreli’s dedicaton to his crush, Duca directly tweeted at Jack Dorsey, the CEO of Twitter, to have Shkreli’s account suspended.

In a statement to the Verge, Twitter confirmed Shkreli was suspended for his “harassment” of Duca.

Although the basis of Duca’s “harassment” argument came from Shkreli posting photos of her, Duca allegedly previously posted photos of Shkreli out in public and mentioned his location at the time.

Shkreli became known as the infamous “pharmabro” after his pharmaceutical company raised the price of a drug to treat toxoplasmosis. Many news sites report—and continue to falsely claim—Shkreli’s Turing Pharmaceuticals raised the price of a drug to treat AIDS.
