A list of the top 10 “Most Fiscally Corrupt Politicians in History” was published over the weekend -- and it will make you extremely happy to be an American.
While the U.S. certainly isn't immune to corruption (does Richard Nixon ring a bell?), you won't find any American politicians on this list of foreign leaders who, among many other violations of office, took large sums of money from criminals or embezzled billions of dollars from their own citizens.
Take for example, Indonesian President Mohamed Suharto, whose family stole $35 billion over the course of his 31 years in office. Or how about Ferdinand Marcos of the Philippines? He declared martial-law in 1972, and over the course of ten years arrested those who opposed him, restricted the freedom of the press, and embezzled up to $10 billion.
