Krauthammer: Iran Deal to Allow for Self-Inspections ‘Scandalous, Farcical’

Under a side agreement with the U.N., Iran will be allowed to conduct its own investigation with its own inspectors of its Parchin nuclear facility, a site Iran has been accused of using to develop nuclear arms, reports The Associated Press.

The investigation of Parchin is part of the overarching nuclear deal between the U.S. and Iran. To allow Iran to conduct its own investigation as opposed to an international official undermines the underlying principle of verification.

On Wednesday night’s “Special Report,” author and political commentator Charles Krauthammer argued that a self-inspection will serve no purpose but simply to reinforce Iran's narrative about having a peaceful nuclear energy program.

“We know in advance that the self-inspection will yield the conclusion that there was no weaponization happening,” Krauthammer said.

He continued, "This is wired in advance, and that's what makes it important, scandalous and farcical all at once."

"It's hard to know what further could be done to make the deal as scandalous as it is."
