Democrats would be making a "catastrophic mistake" if they try to impeach President Trump, Charles Krauthammer told Tucker Carlson last night.

Krauthammer, a Fox News contributor and notable Never-Trumper himself, thinks that Democrats are trying to regain control of the House of Representatives in 2018 so that they can start the impeachment process. But this is a terrible idea, he says:

I happen to think; as you know I opposed the Trump candidacy. I don't think he is very well fit for the presidency. But fitness is not a reason for impeachment, and removal. High crimes are.

And there are no high crimes to talk about, according to Krauthammer.

"Here they are looking for a crime. As of yet, I haven't heard of one," he said.

According to Article II, Section 4 of the Constitution, a president may be impeached only for "treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors. Krauthammer says that even the so-called Russia collusion would not be grounds for an impeachment, telling Carlson, "[C]ollusion is unseemly, but it isn't a crime."

While many anti-Trumpers on the left may not care much for the Constitution, Krauthammer's right -- it would take a lot more then they've currently got to actually make the case for impeaching Trump.
