“Avengers” director Joss Whedon issued an apology for mocking the appearance of childhood cancer survivors, claiming his post didn’t offend the people that he wanted to.
On Thursday, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan met with survivors of childhood cancer. He posted a photo on Twitter posing with the survivors:
In response to the tweet, Whedon saved the and captioned it to suggest Ryan was giving two of the girls cards for being “not a 10”:
After receiving backlash, Whedon eventually took the tweet down. In a follow-up tweet, Whedon said he was “sorry,” but because the tweet “inadvertently offended everyone except the people I was trying to offend”:
Apparently, mocking the appearance of young cancer survivors, and insinuating Ryan must be a pedophile in the process, is only acceptable if the right people are offended.
