"Star Wars" is coming back!

The series enjoys relatively unchallenged status as the most beloved science fiction franchise of all time.  The series’ popularity has not waned, despite nearly universal disappointment among fans in reaction to the long-awaited prequel trilogy and continued mockery of the despised Jar Jar Binks--who may, in fact, be the most loathed movie character in the history of cinema.

Unsurprisingly, the Internet release of the long-awaited teaser trailer for the newest "Star Wars" installment, “The Force Awakens” was enough of a taste to get most fans pumped for the films 2015 release.

Of course, while the trailer accumulated close to 33 million views over the course of two days, some fans couldn't’t help but find things to complain about in the minute and a half glimpse of the upcoming chapter in the saga.

Some fans mocked what appeared to be a new model of the Dark Side lightsaber with two small blades jutting out from the side of the weapon in addition to the classic upright blade.

While many fans thought the new take on the weapon was a cool idea, others criticized the idea for appearing impractical.  Others worried that the fictional Dark Jedi would hurt himself while wielding the blade and one blogger wrote an extensive post urging director J.J. Abrams to dump the weapon concept and replace it with a lightsaber of the bloggers own design.

Star Wars fans are certainly passionate.

There was, apparently, also some negative and racist reaction to a scene showing actor John Boyega, who is black, dressed in a stormtrooper uniform.  The racist twitter comments were met with swift and overwhelming reaction showing support for Boyega.

Although some of the conversation revolved around whether a black stormtrooper would even be possible based on the prequel storyline in which stormtroopers were all clones of the bounty hunter Jango Fett, who was portrayed by actor, Temura Morrison who is of island descent.  Then again,  fans don’t even know whether Boyega actually plays a stormtrooper in the upcoming film or if he’s just dressed up like one, so we should probably all just shut up.

The original Star Wars films are beloved by millions throughout the world, but it’s undeniable that the underwhelming prequel trilogy left many fans disappointed and anxious about future attempts to resume the franchise.

It is unsurprising that some fans are going to be critical and will engage in vociferous Internet debate as new revelations about Episode VII’s plot are slowly leaked to the public.  But, even those who are the most adamant in their criticism are likely to show up on opening day and many will probably watch the film in theaters multiple times.  Som even these minor critiques of the first trailer are unlikely to deter the fan base that is hungry for the next chapters in the most epic space opera ever created.
