Inspiring Comedian Overcomes Stutter to Deliver Comedy Gold

Drew Lynch is making it his mission to make you laugh. But, that’s not what is most impressive about him. Lynch suffered an accident during a softball game where a ground ball bounced into his throat and caused nerve damage to his vocal cords. This injury has since affected his ability to speak by causing him to stutter. His decision to not give into despair is inspiring, and his choice to be a comedian who jokes about his own disability even more so.

He stepped onto the “America’s Got Talent” stage and not only made the crowd laugh, but even moved the audience to stand up and cheer for him. Judge Howie Mandel was so moved by Lynch’s act that he did something that brought Lynch to his knees, overcome with emotion.

Mandel felt a real empathy toward Lynch, saying, “Comedy usually comes from a dark place.” He was so inspired by Lynch finding a light at the end of his own darkness that he hit the golden buzzer - which instantly sends the act in question directly to the season finale. Each judge can only use one golden buzzer in a season and Mandel used it to send Lynch straight to the live show at Radio City Music Hall.
