An illegal alien from Mexico with an extensive criminal record reportedly broke into a woman’s home in Davenport, Fla., and climbed into bed with her before nearly strangling her to death early Sunday morning, according to authorities.

The woman told police she woke up in the wee hours of Sunday morning to find 36-year-old Juan Arteaga-Orozco in bed with her. When she screamed and bolted from the bed, he followed her and began to choke her, she said.

WFLA reported, “The victim told deputies Orozco then said, ‘Shut up, shut up or I’m going to kill you.’ The woman said she felt like she was going to pass out and was scared he was going to kill her.”

Authorities, who responded around 4 a.m., said a second woman then arrived home from a party and heard the victim screaming. The second woman told police she tried to grab Orozco, but he shook her off and ran from the scene, Fox35 Orlando explained.

Authorities determined Orozco was a Mexican national who’s been living in the United States illegally, although the report doesn’t mention how long he has resided here. He does, however, have a criminal record dating back to 2004, including five felonies and two misdemeanors. According to the local sheriff, Orozco should have been deported long before this incident ever occurred.

"This is an example of an immigrant in our country illegally committing serious and violent crimes," Sherrif Grady Judd told local reporters. He also has a criminal history, and should have been deported after committing his earlier crimes."

Orozco is currently being held at Polk County Jail under one count of attempted second-degree murder and two counts of burglary with assault/battery. He has reportedly also been placed under an immigration detainer.
