On Monday, the California State Assembly passed House Resolution 59, with bipartisan support, officially declaring August 2016 "Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month."

This is the same state that always seems to be threatening religious liberty (at least when it comes to Christians).

The resolution states:

Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, That the Assembly joins communities throughout the State of California in recognizing the month of August 2016 as Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month, respectfully acknowledges the rich history and guiding virtues of Muslim Americans, and commends Muslim communities in California for the lasting positive impact they have made, and continue to make, toward the advancement of the state and the nation [...]

HR-59 was introduced in June by Assemblyman Bill Quirk after he was reportedly approached by a community activist. According to NBC, the resolution “comes at a time of increased anti-Muslim rhetoric.”

Quirk told NBC, "Unfortunately, the Muslim community has been, and continues to be, the target of harassment, discrimination and assaults."

"It is appropriate to acknowledge and promote awareness of the myriad invaluable contributions of Muslim Americans in California and across the country, and extend to them the respect and camaraderie every American deserves," he continued.

In California, an entire month gets dedicated to a group of people because they supposedly have been "under attack" by words. Jews have been attacked by more than just words. Millions of Jews were wrongfully murdered by a radical dictator and they continue to account for over half of the religious hate crimes committed. There's Jewish American Heritage Month and Holocaust Remembrance Day, but have those ever been a big deal? Never.
