In Arlington, VA, a group wanted to put into perspective how much gas prices have increased under President Barack Obama's leadership- and it sure did work.

Led by a character named "Gas Can Man", the group took to a Liberty gas station in Northern Virginia and lowered prices from the current $3.75 to $1.84 - the levels when President Obama was sworn into office on January 20, 2009.

The drastic reduction threw many commuters off guard, as people rushed to get into the left hand lane to fill up at the early 2009 levels- causing a massive back up in traffic. Some drivers noticed after passing the station and began making U-turns to come back and fill up their vehicles. The first 150 lucky people in line got to take advantage of the lowered rate.

According to the groups website, GasCanMan.com, here lies their motivation behind the move:

On January 20, 2009 the average price of a gallon of gasoline across the U.S. was just $1.84 a gallon. Since that time the price has spiked over $5 a gallon in some cases and will pass that mark again if we don’t take aggressive action NOW! Gas Can Man knows that high gasoline prices devastate our economy by suppressing economic growth, driving up the costs of food, goods and services and by putting even more pressure on struggling American families. We CAN do better! Look for Gas Can Man™ as he comes to your community spreading the word about how we Energize America!
