France to Support Palestinian Statehood

France became the first major European country to voice support for Palestinian statehood ahead of an upcoming vote on the matter at the UN this week. Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius stated that France would support the bid “out of a concern for coherency.” The proposed resolution for statehood has been strongly opposed by Israel because the resolution endorses returning territories in the West Bank, Gaza, and eastern Jerusalem captured by Israel in 1967 to Palestine.
