More than 19 years after Dan Rather’s most corrupt act as a journalist, he’s taking to social media to whine for leftists posting, “As democracy remains under siege, it has been frustrating to watch how the press covers politics these days.”

Rather doesn’t seem to remember how “frustrating” it was when he and producer Mary Mapes attempted an election-year hit job on then-President George W. Bush. Just eight weeks before election day, in a September 8, 2004 report on 60 Minutes, when Rather claimed “new” (likely false) evidence showing Bush received “preferential treatment” during his Vietnam-era service in the Texas Air National Guard.

It didn’t take long before observers on the internet highlighted how the “newly discovered documents” looked more like something whipped up in Microsoft Word using the default Times Roman font than on an early 1970s typewriter.

Instead of admitting the error, Rather dug in and defended his reporting until evidence continued to pile up against it, eventually announcing he would step down as anchor of CBS Evening News.

A report by an independent panel asked by CBS to look into the matter found “fundamental deficiencies in reporting.”

Now, Rather is bemoaning journalists that cover things from both sides, posting that he has had enough with both-sides-ism.

“When one side lies intentionally and repeatedly, they are no longer entitled to the benefit of the doubt. They should be held to account, right away. Do not simply repeat the narratives they spew,” Rather said.

Rather seems to have no problem with leftist reporters repeating Biden’s false narratives, he makes it clear now, as he did back then, that he is apparatchik of the left.

“If Trump says the sky is green, the story isn’t that the sky is now green; the story is that the sky is still blue and Trump got it wrong,” he posts.

Of course, he fails to mention the same for Biden, even when pushing for reporters to ask “hard questions.”

“Ask about the fundamental principles of democracy. Push them to go on the record that Biden won the 2020 election.”

Maybe they could ask "them" if they believe the false Trump/Russian collusion media narrative? Or if they believe Hunter Biden's laptop is real and indicates corruption by the "Big Guy?" Funny that Rather doesn't seem interested.

It’s interesting that Rather has never publicly accepted the fact that he and CBS engaged in profoundly unethical conduct in order to push their anti-Bush story on the air before the election.

Instead of acting like a truth-seeking journalist, he has always defended (likely) bogus documents from a highly-dubious source only because it confirmed the narrative he wished to push.

Old habits are hard to break.
