New York City’s annual Drag March on Friday saw participants chanting about targeting children, as focus on the LGBTQ community’s influence on minors has risen to prominence on the national scale.

Video from the event shows activists in various states of dress (including a topless woman) chanting “We’re here, we’re queer, we’re coming for your children,” as they marched down the street in the drag parade.

Other video from the event shows people holding signs with slogans saying “Groom Cissies” and “Drag isn’t for Cissies.”

While some claim that the chant was a sarcastic reply to allegations about the LGBTQ community being a vessel that people targeting children use, others criticized the chant on the basis of it making light of a serious issue.

“This movement grooms minors to have mastectomies and castration and fuels a multi billion dollar medical child abuse industry,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R-GA) said on Twitter. “Pass the Protect Children’s Innocence Act. Let kids be kids.”

Later on in this past weekend’s Pride events, the New York City Dyke March also sparked backlash over reports that some adults in attendance “danced and played” openly naked while there were allegedly children present. Many of the Pride events in NYC this year have placed specific emphasis on uniting the LGBTQ community against “anti-LGBTQ” legislation across the nation, especially laws concerning minors.
