Following the arrest of three homicide and four carjacking suspects, Police Chief James was asked whether or not he would pump his gas during the night in Detroit. He responded by stating that he would not - unless it was absolutely necessary.

"I wouldn't, but if I had to, I would," Craig stated. "But, I'd probably be very aware of my surroundings."

He later added that, while he does purchase gas in Detroit, there are some stations he wouldn't even consider visiting, citing that most carjackings occur between the hours of 11pm and 2am.

Craig said he would prefer not to comment on the details of the incident and the suspects involved at this time, but that more information will eventually be released.

Craig concluded the press conference by claiming his officers were targeting carjackings, particularly those occurring at gas stations. The Detroit police have said carjacking are down 19 percent from the previous year.

"So far, we have put a tremendous effort into carjackings and gas station robberies," Craig stated. "Carjacking numbers have taken a tremendous drop. We are also working with gas station owners in an attempt to make their stations safer for their customers"
