Despite the Democrats organized effort to take to every media outlet to paint the Tea Party as 'terrorists', it has not caught on with the general public. According to a new Rasmussen poll released today, just 29% of people buy the slander, while 55% disagree.
Rasmussen writes:
"Fifty-five percent (55%) of Likely U.S. Voters, in fact, say members of the Tea Party are not economic terrorists. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 29% believe Tea Party members have been terrorists during the budget debates, while another 16% are undecided.
Perhaps tellingly, while 53% of Democrats view Tea Party members as terrorists, 57% of voters not affiliated with either major party disagree, as do 74% of Republicans"
However, charges led by Democrats that the Tea Party is making things worse for the country has stuck more than the "terrorists" label. Forty three percent (43%) of all voters believe the Tea Party has made things worse off for the country in the budget debates in Congress. Thirty two percent (32%) say they have made things better, while 14% say it's had no impact. Eleven percent (11%) were undecided. These numbers were heavily partisan as 53% of Republicans believe the Tea Party has made things better, while 73% of Democrats believe they have made things worse.
Also being spearheaded by Democrats is the notion that we must raise taxes in order to get our budget back on track. Voters disagree. Just 34% favor higher taxes compared to 55% who oppose tax hikes of any kind.
The Rasmussen poll was taken amongst 1,000 likely voters and conducted between August 5-6, 2011 and has a sampling error of +/-3 percentage points.
