The Democratic Party Tweeted out its support for rapper Kanye West following his announcement at Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards that he would be seeking the Democratic Party's nomination for the presidency in 2020.

Democrats embraced the rapper's announcement despite the fact that he has promised to run in a year where a Democrat would be running for re-election if one is to win the presidency in 2016.

This is not the first time that the Democratic Party has celebrated the controversial rapper in order to support its agenda on the social network. In previous Tweets, the party has used gifs of Kanye to degrade the policy positions of GOP hopefuls Scott Walker, Marco Rubio and Chris Christie, as well as to promote agenda items such as raising the minimum wage and mandatory paid maternity leave.

West has become well-known for his controversial political statements. He famously opined that President George W. Bush did not care about black people, following Hurricane Katrina.

He has rapped about the government intentionally creating the AIDS virus and compares himself to God and Jesus Christ on a regular basis.

He is an outspoken supporter of Pres. Obama - despite the fact that the president has called West a "jackass" on two different occasions.

While it is unclear whether West will keep his promise to run in the 2020 election, paperwork requesting permission to set up a super PAC in support of West has already been filed with the Federal Election Commission.

The Democratic Party is obviously using Kanye's likeness in a effort to appeal to young members of its base.  However, if Kanye is serious about his intentions, the DNC could be in for a primary challenge if a Democrat occupies the White House come 2020.
