A new poll shows 55 percent of registered voters have an unfavorable opinion of presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

The Aug. 13-16 CNN/ORC poll asked individuals to state their opinions on certain topics that have been trending in the news.

Asked whether they hold a favorable or unfavorable opinion of Clinton, 55 percent of registered voters responded they have an unfavorable opinion of the presidential candidate, while 43 percent claimed to hold a favorable opinion.

Among all Americans, 53 percent reported to have an unfavorable opinion of Clinton compared to just 44 percent with a favorable opinion.

Clinton’s favorability is down from the July 22-25 poll for all Americans, which showed 45 percent of individuals having a favorable opinion of her. In July, just 48 percent had an unfavorable view of Clinton.

Prospective presidential candidate Vice President Joe Biden earned the highest favorability percentage among the Democratic candidates mentioned in the survey (Martin O’Malley, Jim Webb, and Lincoln Chafee were excluded). The poll shows 47 percent of registered voters and 45 percent of all Americans hold a favorable opinion of Biden.

It is possible Clinton’s trouble with registered voters has to do with her email scandal. The poll asked, “Do you think Hillary Clinton did or did not do anything wrong by using a personal email address and home-based server to send and receive emails while she served as Secretary of State?”

In response, 58 percent of registered voters and 56 percent of all Americans responded they believe Clinton “did something wrong” with her email handling.

Democrat voters, however, continue to insist she did not do anything wrong: 65 percent of Democrats who are registered voters believe Clinton “did not do anything wrong.”

This shows an increase in the percentage of people who believe Clinton mishandled her emails. In the Mar. 13-15 poll, 51 percent of all Americans believed Clinton did something wrong and 47 believe Clinton did not do anything wrong.

The CNN/ORC poll interviewed 1,001 American adults and 897 registered voters. In the entire sample, 27 percent described themselves as Democrats, 23 claimed to be Republicans, and 50 percent stated they were either independents or members of an alternative party.
