Hillary Clinton criticized her Republican rival Donald Trump on Thursday ahead of a speech by his running mate Indiana Gov. Mike Pence at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.

Before speaking at a rally in North Carolina, Clinton held her first formal press conference since December, where she told reporters that many presidents, including Ronald Reagan, “would just be looking at one another in total astonishment” at Trump for his remarks about the U.S. military and Vladimir Putin.

"I was just thinking about all of the presidents that would just be looking at one another in total astonishment,” Clinton said. “What would Ronald Reagan say? About a Republican nominee who attacks America's generals and heaps praise on Russia's president?”

“I think we know the answer," she added.

Trump Wednesday night at a forum hosted by NBC News said that he knows more about ISIS than the U.S. military generals, who "have been reduced to rubble" under Obama and Clinton.

He went on to suggest that he would replace current leadership if elected president.

Trump was also asked to respond to his previous remarks of praise toward Vladimir Putin, that most Russians respect him whereas only half of Americans approve of President Obama.

He said that Putin has "very strong control" over Russia and has been a leader, "far more than our president has been a leader."
