I think Democrats and Republicans alike can agree that one major responsibility of the government is to protect its citizens from foreign threats. But the FBI doesn't seem to be upholding that role.
Circa reports that after reportedly conducting numerous interviews with American citizens, the FBI has failed on numerous occasions to inform individuals that they are on ISIS kill lists.
There are more than 15,000 people living in New York, Texas, Florida and California whose names have appeared on these kill lists supposedly issued by ISIS, calling for the individuals to be murdered by sleeper cells or their secret supporters.
Circa News claims that although the lists are not public, they managed to obtain copies of some of them.
The report stated:
In Texas alone, Circa identified 22 people in a sampling of 24 names who did not receive any notification that they were in ISIS’s crosshairs. It also identified two local police departments whose citizens were on the list that also got no alert from the FBI.
An FBI official reportedly told the news outlet that they intended to notify each and every individual mentioned on an ISIS kill list in addition to working with local police departments, but that some names might have been missed. The official apparently stressed that no one on the list had been attacked.
Yet.
“The FBI routinely notifies individuals and organizations of potential threat information. We perform these notifications so potential victims are aware of possible threats and take appropriate steps,” the bureau said. “Those measures may include paying close attention to your surroundings at all times, protecting personally identifiable information, and immediately calling the local authorities if you observe something suspicious. The FBI will continue to work closely with federal, state, and local partners to keep the public informed of potential threats.”
Circa shared that in New York City, people reported that they did in fact receive a warning from the NYPD that they were on a kill list. In Texas, it was quite the opposite.
Circa described two separate cases in which the contacted individuals were completely unaware they had been put on kill lists. One woman, who is referred to as Amelia, had no knowledge that her life was at risk until the news outlet contacted her on May 12. Similarly, a college professor residing in Austin that the news outlet contacted claimed to have received no warning from his local police. The professor proceeded to contact his local precinct, and informed him that they had not received any information of the sort from the U.S. government.
A former FBI counterterrorism agent, Chad Jenkins, shared his opinion on the situation, stating that, “If we aren’t notifying private citizens, that is a disservice.”
“I would be very shocked if the FBI was not taking this seriously,” he added.
