Chris Christie Receiving Diet Books as Gifts

Like most big name politicians Governor Chris Christie(R-NJ) receives a great number of unsolicited gifts from fans all across the country.

Since taking office, Christie has received over 1,100 gifts and has kept track of every single one so as not to run into legal problems down the road.

Sounds like a nice gesture, right?  Well, maybe not so much.

As it turns out, those gifts include a lot of books.  About 600 of them to be exact.  Of those books 77 of them were about diet, exercise and  weight loss surgery options.  The gifts also include weight loss DVDs, CDs and exercise equipment.

While those sending the gifts may mean well and send the gifts out of concern for the governors health, it still seems a bit rude.  particularly considering that Christie has publicly struggled with his weight and been the subject of ridicule because of it, since stepping onto the national scene.

Some of the books even came directly from well known weight-loss gurus.

Dr. Mehmet Oz, personally sent the governor a copy of "Eat to Live" in September 2011 and the creator of the “South Beach Diet” sent Christie two books in 2012.

Some of the other books gifted to Christie include, “Morbid Obesity: Will You Allow It To Kill You?,” “Leave the Cannoli – Take the Weights,” “The Aerobic House Cleaning Lifestyle,” “The Macho Man Diet,” “This Ain’t No Diet Book,” and “Faith & Fat Loss.”

Christie has in fact lost weight since his bariatric surgery two years ago.

Still, the gesture of mailing Christie constant reminders of his weight problem strikes me as pretty rude.  And while the governor’s office hasn't commented on the gifts since they were discovered, we all know from past experience that Christie is not the type of politician whose bad side you want to find yourself on.
